Dental crowns can be used to improve the size, shape, strength, and/or appearance of a natural tooth. A dental crown is a “cap” or covering, that is custom made to fit the designated natural tooth and fully cover the visible portion of the tooth to the gum line. Dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials, including glass, gold alloy, and porcelain. Porcelain crowns are most commonly used because they can be color-matched to blend in with the natural teeth. In some cases, patients may require multiple crowns in order to achieve their cosmetic goals or to strengthen and improve the appearance of weakened or damaged teeth.
